GUARDEN and MAMBO Training Sessions

As part of the European projects GUARDEN and MAMBO, the CIRAD Team, and especially Pierre Bonnet and Rémi Palard, hosted two dedicated training sessions on the innovative web tools GeoPl@ntNet and Pl@ntNet Plot on Thursday, June 19, at the AMAP laboratory, France. These sessions were held in person only, bringing together both researchers and interns interested in plant biodiversity and ecological research, looking for innovative tools in their work.

  • GeoPl@ntNet (2:00 PM – 3:15 PM)
Participants explored high-resolution plant biodiversity maps, with the ability to filter by taxonomic groups or ecological categories, helping identify key conservation areas and floristic hotspots. This tool is currently live and can be accessed and tested publicly here: https://geo.plantnet.org/
  • Pl@ntNet Plot (3:30 PM – 4:45 PM)
This session introduced an innovative and a Work In Progress tool designed to identify plants using the same principle as Pl@ntNet. However, this new feature currently beta-tested use high-definition imagery of plant communities and provide detailed results of each plant present in the phot.

These trainings were more than just tool demonstrations—they offered a comprehensive dive into the scientific and technical foundations behind each platform. Attendees gained insights into why and how these tools were developed, saw them in action, and, most importantly, participated in interactive Q&A moments and live exercises to assess their comprehension of the tools but also gather their return on experience. This hands-on approach helped test and improve the usability and ergonomics of the platforms in real-time.

Stay tuned since an online session will be organized in the autumn for those who couldn’t attend these two trainings.

In case you want to explore these tools before the next session you’re in luck ! We have plenty of supports you can check already !
