France Case Study Evaluation Workshop

In France, the case study aims to integrate biodiversity and ecosystem services into the context of urban development and transport infrastructure. The Conservatoire Botanique National Méditerranéen (CBNmed), responsible for the case study in France, has chosen the Parc Naturel Régional de la Narbonnaise en Méditerranée as a partner, known for its exceptional biodiversity and landscapes. This park will be impacted by the project for the Nouvelle Ligne Montpellier-Perpignan (LNMP). The GUARDEN tools are designed to assist in informing decisions about the route of the train line and other infrastructure related to this project. In this context, CBNmed organized two workshops (on May 6 and 7), to assess the initial developments of Geopl@ntNet and the GUARDEN decision support tool.

These workshops aim to:

  1. Showcase the GUARDEN tools
  2. Assess participants’ perceptions of the GUARDEN tools
  3. Gather feedback to improve the proposed tools.

The workshop involved various stakeholders: several experts of Parc Naturel Régional de la Narbonnaise (park, biodiversity expert), Département de l’Aude (decision-makers), chambre d’agriculture (decision-makers, Agriculture expert), Verdi ingenierie and SNCF réseau (project leader), Office Française de la Biodiversité (decision-makers, biodiversity expert), Centre d’Ecologie Fontionnel et d’Evolution (Research), Région Occitanie (decision-makers), Syndicat Mixte des Milieux aquatiques et des Rivières (management of aquatic environments, flood prevention, and water resource management) and Conservatoire Botanique National Méditerranéen (conservatories).
