Frederick University and GUARDEN Project Inspire Young Students

As part of the social activities of Nature Conservation Unit of Frederick University to inform and raise public awareness on environmental and nature protection issues, an interactive presentation was held in November 2024, at a primary school in Nicosia. Students of all grades had the opportunity to learn about the plants of Cyprus’ flora, to smell and get to know aromatic and medicinal plants and their uses, as well as to discuss examples of harmful and poisonous plants that exist in the urban environment they live.

The presentation was also a very good opportunity to present GUARDEN project, in which the University participates as a partner in Cyprus case study, and which is co-funded by the European Union. The students were informed about the ICT tools, that are developed by the GUARDEN project and are available for use as applications on smart phones and tablets. Specifically, a demonstration was made, of the use of the Pl@ntNet application for plant identification, which is free and available to users.
